Dayanand Bachhrawan Post Graduate College came into being through the efforts of Munshi Chandrika Prasad ‘Guruji’, reputed Freedom Fighter, former Member of Legislative Assembly and dedicated social worker. Guruji was all for educational uplift of the area and was instrumental for establishing an intermediate college in the town. With the cooperation and backing of the local populace, he took vow in 1969-1970 to establish this college.
Guruji found an ally in the former Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, Dr Virendra Swaroop, pall bearer of Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan of Kanpur. With the cooperation of Dr Swaroop, the college got temporary affiliation from Kanpur University (now Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur) in 1981-1982 for running graduation classes. The college formally started classes on July 1, 1981.
Ever since then this college is making commendable contribution in the domain of higher education of the area’s people. Because of its strategic location, it is catering to the students from rural areas of three adjoining districts – Lucknow, Unnao and Barabanki – apart from those in Rae Bareli district.
One of the largest educational institutions in the area, the college has made steady progress under the dynamic leadership of late Dr Nagendra Swaroop. With the innovative ideas of Dr. Gaurvendra Swaroop, the present secretary of the management committee, the college continues to flourish in terms of modernization and standardization. Also contributing to the progress of the college are the principal, Dr Subhash Chandra Srivastava, and committed teachers and staff members of the college.
The college has been affiliated to the university of Lucknow, Lucknow since 2021. The session of the college runs from July 1 of a particular year to June 30 of the next year.
